A small beach town on the east coast of Mallorca, Cala Bona is the perfect combination of fun in the sun and a quaint village atmosphere.

We’re looking at what makes this a popular destination for families and what you can do to enjoy your day there.

What is Cala Bona Beach Like?

There are three beaches in the resort of Cala Bona; we’re looking at the main one, Cala Bona beach, which is a 300-meter-long stretch of golden sand with a few areas of pebbles. The ocean is stunningly blue, with some low entry points to make getting in easier.

It is the perfect destination for getting away from the hustle and bustle of any of the main beaches.

Location

Cala Bona is on the east coast of Mallorca, north of Calla Millor and 75km from Palma de Mallorca.

The town of Cala Bona was once a small fishing village, something you’ll still feel part of when you visit the harbour.

Getting to Cala Bona from the airport is simple with a rental car (one hour and ten minutes) or bus (one-and-a-half to two hours).

The northeast of Mallorca is relatively untouched, so you’ll find some interesting surrounding areas like Capdepera (15.1km), Manacor (22km), and the neighbouring resort town Cala Millor (2.2km).

Restaurants, Bars & Facilities

Since Cala Bona has a harbour, we highly recommend seafood at any of the excellent restaurants in the town; it’s fresh, arriving from the Mediterranean sea straight to your plate.

The town isn’t where we would go for an all-night party, but the close Cala Millor (2.2km) has everything for a good time - after which you can crawl into your comfy bed in the quiet Cala Bona.

There are some bars and restaurants along the promenade and in the town with delicious local cocktails.

Cala Bona beach has showers, toilets, sun lounger rentals, and umbrellas - all the ingredients for a lovely sun-filled vacation or day trip to the village.

You’ll also find refreshments at the cafes and small supermarkets in town.

Lifeguard & Water Sports

Cala Bona is a small beach and there aren’t water sports available, but diving is popular.

You can also enjoy the glass bottom boat from the harbour, where you might be lucky to see some of the local sea life, like dolphins and turtles.

The main beach is a Blue flag, meaning lifeguards keep families safe throughout the day.

Is Cala Bona Family-friendly?

Cala Bona is one of the best family-friendly beaches in the region. It is less crowded and allows little ones to explore the ocean without being hassled.

However, some areas on Cala Bona beaches have pebbles, so we recommend taking along some shoes to protect little feet.

Fantasy Park Cala Bona also has trampolines and a bouncy castle for kids to enjoy for hours just a mere 2.2km away.

Plus, the cycle track along the promenade is a fun activity for families.

Where to Park at Cala Bona

Parking in Cala Bona can be a game of chance. You can find some street parking, but nothing is guaranteed.

It might be best to use public transport rather than your car hire. There is a bus in the town and a small train that goes between Costa dels Pins, Cala Millor, and Cala Bona.

Other Nearby Beaches

Cala Bona has three beaches, but only two are considered beaches you can use because of their size and facilities.

They are all located next to one another along the coast, but they are still small compared to other famous Mallorca beaches.

Nearby Hotels & Resorts

There are some beautiful accommodations in Cala Bona. Some are right on the waterfront with stunning ocean views, and others offer a more small-town vibe.

Here are some to look into:

  • Hipotels Cala Bona Club
  • Hotel Ilusion Moreyo
  • Catalonia del Mar
  • Globales Cala Bona Suites
  • Aparthotel Cap De Mar

Cala Millor is very close to Cala Bona for those wanting to stay further afield.
